When I was a young boy, emerging
muscles were the coolest thing. If a
vein popped out a little, that was even more awesome. There were no fitness
centers or body-building gyms to amount to anything back then (Stone Age). If you aspired to brawn, Charles Atlas
paraphernalia advertised in comic books was guaranteed to help you turn the
cards on the guy who kicked sand in your face on the beach last summer.
Back then, muscles seemed
more legitimate if you earned them from work on the farm or from other
labor. Muscles from exercise were
thought of as sort of “artificial”. So I did lots of farm work and construction
in the summers. But leaving nothing to chance, I also cheated by building my
own weight set with a pipe that I would insert into the holes of cement blocks.
My dad was of the school
that I had better be careful or I could get all “muscle bound” if I exercised
too much. I guess he must have worried as he saw me in the back yard hoisting
my pipe with blocks dangling from each end. But I loved the exercise and
reveled in the pumped feeling in my biceps.
Sorry to sound so
narcissistic. But it’s the way all of us “guys” thought. We would
even compare bumps on the school bus every morning and banter about who could
do the most push-ups. This is not to say muscles and fitness are still
not important to me, but now I focus primarily on exercise that will help me
stay healthy, in shape and trained for the competitive sports I play.
I bring this up not to
brag or appall you, but as a backdrop for the current situation in the sport
and bodybuilding worlds. Now that society is off the farm, exercise has
become a perfectly legitimate way to replace the physical activity lost with
modern living. The use of hormones to force the body to grow in a way it
would never do naturally, however, is a perversion of what should be clean and
healthy personal development. Anabolic hormones totally miss the point of
it all. The freaky bodies that can result are aberrations, yet magazines
are filled with their photo spreads as if drug induced bodies are icons we
should emulate and aspire to.
Aside from the fact that
only people with natural bodies and developed talents should compete in sports
(otherwise drugs are competing, not athletes), the real tragedy is the toll on
health any hormone can take. Of all the drugs I used in medical practice,
hormones scared me the most. They could create dramatic and immediate
results (and that is their allure), but hormone treatment continued for any
length of time always seemed to come back to harm the patient and haunt me.
An example in humans is
the use of testosterone patches in women to increase libido. Take them
very long and although your passion may be triggered, your voice will deepen
and a beard will start to grow (not so good for the libido of the
husband). Corticosteroids for allergies can result in extremely serious
adrenal gland diseases, immune suppression and vulnerability to
infection. In veterinary medicine the same things can happen. One
situation I am reminded of that occurred many years ago was related to hormones
given to dogs for birth control. Years after discontinuing the drugs,
treated dogs would present to veterinarians with life threatening illness,
extreme thirst and white blood cell counts off the charts. When their enlarged
abdomens were surgically explored, a gigantic uterus would be found filled with
pus – quarts of it! All this just because a little ole hormone was given
years ago without a hint of an immediate ill effect.
You see, the body is
extremely wise. It is not fooled or endlessly forgiving. If you
break your arm and put it in a sling, the muscles don’t grow bigger, they
atrophy. Why? Because the body is also efficient. Why grow
muscles or even maintain them if they are not needed? When the sling is
removed, the arm will have lost much of its strength. The body shuttled
its resourc
es into building bigger muscles in the arm that had to do double
duty. It’s a very pragmatic thing. The body doesn’t pay attention
to your agenda; it just does what it must to stay alive, make do and meet
stress.
The same thing would
happen to both arms – to your whole body – if you had servants do everything
for you as you reclined in an easy-chair. Then, if all of a sudden you
had to get out of the chair and run a mile or lift 200 pounds to survive, you
wouldn’t make it. Your wasted and weak body could not rise to the
challenge.
Hormones are like a
metabolic sling placed on the hormone producing glands—testicles, ovaries,
adrenal, thyroid, pituitary, etc. They replace the hormones that the
glands normally produce. When this happens there is a negative
feed-back: the more hormones from the
outside that are introduced into the body, the less the glands do what they no
longer need to – synthesize hormones. So the metabolic “muscles” (glands)
that create hormones atrophy. If all of a sudden the outside source of
hormones is withdrawn, your weak and withered organs may then not have the
strength to take up the task again and supply hormones. Since about every
function in the body is hormone-influenced, and every hormone interacts with
every other hormone in some way, catastrophe results. Is it any wonder that
modern anabolic body builders are also racked w
ith heart disease, cancer,
immune disorders, digestive failure and metabolic disorders in their (early)
later years? The use of anabolic
hormones is most certainly a case of desire being a ruinous tenant of its
landlord, the body.
Consider this also with
regard to anabolics. A normal body
weight of 170 lbs. can be changed to 250 lbs. of solid muscle. To get there, massive amounts of food have
to be consumed. Yet digestive “muscle” is not being built to keep pace, So the
digestive tract and associated organs (liver, pancreas, gall bladder) suited
for maintaining a 170 lb. body is forced to digest and assimilate extremely
large amounts of food? The result is
digestive exhaustion and resultant damage that can last a lifetime. Most of us suffer some digestive problems
and intolerances as we age due in large part to eating abuses when we were
young. Note the number of television
commercials hawking stomach remedies.
Body builders force feeding can exaggerate this damage leaving a ruined
digestive system tolerant of little more than Maalox.
A huge number of high school
kids are trying to “get big” with steroids. What an incredibly dangerous
proposition for them. Parents, be aware that this is not innocuous.
If the plea is that a little won’t hurt, particularly if they are “cycled”
properly, don’t buy it. If the argument
is that taking them is the only way to excel in a sport, then change
sports. Insist.
For you adults who are
toying with the idea of taking hormones for one reason or another, think long
and hard. Read the contraindications and cautions on the drug insert
sheets. Take heed. Find other ways to stimulate your body’s own
natural ability to enhance or improve itself through exercise, lifestyle and
nutrition. Don’t put your organs in slings and then expect long-term
benefit.
The piper will always be
paid.

Yoga – Benefits of Yoga
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Yoga is an ancient practice that helps create a sense of union in body, mind, and spirit. The most important benefit of yoga is physical and mental therapy. The aging process, which is largely an artificial condition, caused mainly by autointoxication or self-poisoning, can be slowed down by practicing yoga. Although yoga has been shown to be beneficial in a variety of conditions, it is not considered a therapy for specific illnesses. Yoga also strives to increase self-awareness on both a physical and psychological level. This allows people to take early collective action, such as adjusting posture, when discomfort is first noticed. Practicing yoga can provide chronic pain sufferers with useful tools to actively cope with their pain and help counter feelings of helplessness and depression. Laboratory tests have proved the yogi’s increased abilities of consciously controlling autonomic or involuntary functions, such as temperature, heartbeat and blood pressure. Patients who practice yoga have a better chance of gaining the ability to control their breathing problems.
In general, yoga is a very safe form of exercise for most people. For those with specific back conditions, it is advisable to speak with one’s treating physician prior to starting yoga. Yoga is dynamite to make you feel younger with heightened mental prowness. Longer life often result from following yogic ways of health maintenance. Yoga is approximately 4,000 years old and is a scientific methodology aimed at uniti
ng the mind, body, and spirit. Yoga is believed to reduce pain by helping the brain’s pain center regulate the gate-controlling mechanism located in the spinal cord and the secretion of natural painkillers in the body. Breathing exercises used in yoga can also reduce pain. Yoga has consistently been used to cure and prevent back pain by enhancing strength and flexibility. Both acute and long-term stress can lead to muscle tension and exacerbate back problems.

For some men hair loss can be a real problem. For most, when it starts it can be an embarrassing problem too. Hair loss is sometimes heredity and it is due to the malfunctioning of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT deteriorates the growth of hair by contracting the hair follicles, causing the hair to stop growing.
Male baldness generally occurs because of the unwanted effects that testosterone has on head hair. With other types of hair, such as, pubic hair and facial hair, testosterone promotes growth, but with head hair, testosterone is converted into DHT which clogs the hair follicles, and causes the contracting. If you are experiencing hair loss problems you should definitely consider this new supplement called Procerin.
Procerin is specifically designed
to help men retain and regrow their hair. It is also 100% natural, the active ingredients are all-natural herbal, vitamin, and mineral DHT inhibitors, which combine to produce a product which promotes healthy hair growth. The natural ingredients of Procerin mean that the product is free from the side effects that are associated with other hair loss medications and supplements, such as, a loss of sex drive, erection problems, and nausea.
Procerin is able to boast an 88% success rate amongst its users. It is also easy to administer, with a tablet needed once in the morning, and once at night. It is recommended that Procerin is taken for at least 1 – 2 months to see satisfactory results, due to the slowness at which head hair grows. However the results are shown to be remarkable with long term success.

Woman Hair Loss
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Hair loss is something which most people would prefer not to suffer with and if a woman is hit by the problem of hair loss, she is bound to feel terrible. A few years back hair loss was not even discussed by women, it was something that was simply covered up but due to high profile celebrities and the like coming forward to say they suffer too more and more woman are seeking a solution without embarrassment.
Delving into the main cause of women’s hair loss we come to know that this primarily happens during the pregnancy or childbirth or when woman is suffering from gout, acne, thyroid disease or arthritis.
At times hair loss for a woman is only restricted to the temporary stage and can be treated by applying various hair loss solution and hair loss products. According to expert dermatologists woman hair loss can also result due to eating disorders. Therefore, should suffer from hair loss you should ensure you are partaking in a properly balanced and nutritious diet.
Many women go for frequent bleaching or colouring of hair and cheap colorants can sometimes result in hair loss. Many companies have started offering hair loss s
olutions primarily for women. DHT blockers for women are one of the best hair loss solutions as it comprehensively reduces the production of DHT which is the main cause of hair loss in women with Androgenetic alopecia.
There are two main types of woman hair loss namely Anagen effluvium and Telogen effluvium. Talking about Anagen effluvium, it is mainly due to internally administered medications, such as chemotherapy agents. However, Telogen effluvium problem is the result of mental and physical stress, anemia, weight change, hormonal imbalance and thyroid abnormality.
Still, once all these hormonal and biological imbalances have been ruled out then the likely reason for hair loss in women is female pattern baldness – or Androgenetic alopecia.
For this type of female hair loss we at Combat Hair Loss suggest dihytestosterone (DHT) blocker treatment, as it comprehensively reduces the production of DHT. Thus, if you are a woman and suffering from hair loss simply visit www.combat-hair-loss.co.uk for treatments, solutions and information on hair loss.

The Most Intense Set You Can Do!
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Bodybuilders thrive to make each workout more intense than the previous workout; they try to add weight, or reps, cut down on the rest time between sets, or even increase the total number of sets.
In an effort to increase the intensity of their workout bodybuilders have employed methods like 21’s, continuous tension, pre-exhaust sets, superset, giant sets and the one I dread the most the forced reps!
I have read articles by a number of athletes about a method of increasing intensity call the Drop Sets. One bodybuilder said that this method would develop the best muscle gains. Brave words and I would argue with him except I think he may be correct. However I have a twist to conventional drops that if done correctly YOU Will Get Huge! No drugs needed!
Now before I go into this method of increasing the intensity I want to address why I never do forced reps. I am one of the few bodybuilders that can work out without a partner, because I never need a spot. You see when the weight gets so heavy that I “Think” I can’t do another rep, I put it down.
No, that does not make me a wimp it make me injury free, there is a big difference. This is why I never do forced reps, or any other method to complete failure. I don’t have anything against systems like HIT or any of the other system that take you past failure. I just don’t use them. Remember Dorian Yates did wonderful with High Intensity Training, but he was always injured and I don’t know this as fact but that may have been the reason for his abbreviated career. Because I won’t do forced reps, or high intensity training, this method works so well at developing huge muscles without injury.
Now Lets talk about how this thing works. When we put a muscle under stress from say doing a bicep curl, we employ a number of muscle fibers. As these muscle fibers become exhausted we reach a point of momentary failure. By decreasing the weight, you can go pass that point of failure employing new muscle fibers that would not have been contracted at the original weight. Now this process continues until your muscles are fully engorged with blood.
Wait a second
You see going from a heavy weigh to a light will cause faster twitch muscle to fire, but going from light to heavy will cause both, so both hypertrophy and Hyperplasia are the end results.
Here is how to cause deep muscle fiber contraction
Rather than doing 2 drops (using 3 different weights) do 3 or use 4 different weights. The heaviest weight you rep range should be 6-8 the next heaviest 8-12 the next 12-15 and the lightest weight 25 reps or more. I sometimes do as many as 40 reps with the lighter weight at the start of the workout.
Here is what one set should look like;
you get the lightest weight say a 40lb dumbbell and you do 25 reps or more with that weight ad move to the 50lb dumbbell doing 12 to 15 reps, adding weight to 60lb doing 8-12 reps and finally going to 70lb and doing 6 to 8 reps.
You a little past half way no; Return to the 60’s and remember your goal is 8 to 12 reps, the 50’s and with a goal of 12 to 15 reps and the 40 with a goal of 25 reps or more.
Now because you start of with such a light weight you no longer have to do a warm up the 25 to 40 reps should be warm up enough.
How much weigh should I use?
Simple start with the weight that you normally use for 8 -12 reps with some difficulty on the first set, that will be your heaviest weight, and select weight down from there three drops.
Finally some rules to doing Railroads.
· Keep rest intervals to a minimum less than 10 seconds
· Set up equipment in advance so that some skinny dude in the gym doesn’t take your 40’s for himself.
· Use Railroads sparingly as a high intensity method.
o You can use railroad for any body part but the larger movements like bench you need two lifting partners. Don’t railroad on bench press squats or any heavy compound movement without two lifting partners.

The best calves that I have ever seen in bodybuilding belonged not to Mike Mentzer, or Chris Dickerson but to Shawn Ray. Shawn Ray was not genetically predisposed to great calves, he was predisposed to hard work. The high calf and long soleus of Shaw Ray would be called (by quitters) racially disadvantaged calves, but when he stood on stage next to anyone his calves were never a weak point.
When I started bodybuilding, black men were not expected to grow great calves. Robby Robinson would have had the perfect physique had his calf development not been subpar.
I entered the Mid-Atlantic back in 1992 my calves measured 17”. In preparing for the contest my bodyweight went from 210lbs to 192lbs ( I start contest training 24 weeks out) and my calves went from 15” to 17”. This was the first time in my life that I ever had such a development burst and I needed to know why. If I could paten this I would be rich!
Scientific study never impressed me, for the most part I felt their results were the dependent on who financed their project. However antidotal study seems to answer many questions on the level that was important to me. I never needed to know how protein worked in the body to build muscle, just that if I took “X” amount, at a given body weight, I would get a desired result.
So I did some study of those individuals that had great calves and “claimed” to have been born with bad calves. I paid no attention to race, or ethnic origin, because of my sudden size increase I felt the solution had to effect everyone equality
Keep your hat on because what I’m about to say may just shock you! “ Donkey Calf Raises” that’s it not secret not great discipline.
Not many bodybuilders today do donkey calf raises because this movement brings to question their Machismo. “I don’t want no man climbing on may back that’s nasty” However when you can put your ego, and homophobia aside and just do the work you will grow!.
There was a book I read a while back called “Critical Mass” I’m not sure who wrote it but the book subscribes to the theory of “Point of Flexion” that if you work a muscle from all angles than the muscle will grow. I followed what was in the book and got some pretty impressive results so I know it works.
Remember I am antidotal, but I’m still analytical in my assessments. So the first thing that came to my mind was why is it that there are three positions, flexed, mid-range, and contracted, but for claves and hamstrings there are only two movements?
The other thing that I noticed was most people in the gym with poor calves did only two exercises for calves standing calf raises and seated. Both of those list in the book as being needed for explosive growth. Look a 250lb man with 16 inch calve is not pretty. Now of those that did have great, or at least above average calves they did donkeys. You know the group of crazies that benched 450lbs squatted 600lbs and had huge backs so littered with pimples that some busted from lying on the bench when the were doing heavy sets. You know the guys all the other gym members tried to stay away from. If you don’t know who I’m talking about its because you were one of those guys. These guys did donkey calf raises almost every night before they went home. They piled on one, two, even three of there workout buddies and the cute girl that worked behind the counter every night to grunt out at least three set of donkeys every single night.
What I have here is a routine designed to develop your claves in about a month, remember that you must follow the rules below for this to work!
Before you can do the routine here are some rules you need to take into consideration first.
- Make sure the number of triceps sets is equal to or less than the calves. What this rule is doing is trying to teach that your calves are as important as any of the more showy muscles.
- Rep range stays the same even when the weight increases
- As soon as you can complete the rep requirement add weight ( this is about every two weeks or so) less in the beginning longer as you get better. However, if you are using the same weight after 2 months than you have not put enough efforts to see results. Suggestion cut down rest between sets or increase weight and keeps workout time the same.
- Every 6 weeks change the order of the exercise, Treat your calf work as a workout by itself. I take up to 30 min rest after calves before doing the rest of my workout, or do them ( my calves) on a day with forearms and traps.
Change the order every 7th week.
Here is the routine
mso-pagination: center; TEXT-ALIGN:>
|
Standing Calf Raises |
(3-5 set of 25 to 40 reps) |
|
Seated calf Raises |
(3-5 sets of 15-25reps) |
|
Donkey Calf Raises |
( 3-5 set of 15-20 reps) |
PS: dont use the donkey calf machine you see at health spas. If you must use a machine use a leg press machine and do lying toe raises, the goal is that your body be in a “L” shape while doing the exercise. Please don’t get me wrong the leg press machine is not a substitute for the “jump on my back” donkey calf work so don’t be tempted replace donkeys with a leg press machine.

Breast augmentation has come a long way since its shady past: a dangerous elective surgical procedure performed by unskilled and inexperienced doctors in some back alley.
These days, you’ll find excellent resources and information regarding everything about the cosmetic surgical procedure of breast augmentation, presented in a frank and honest manner. From the first steps of the consultation process with a cosmetic surgeon to recovery and taking care of your new image, breast augmentation is a viable solution for women who are unhappy with the size of their breasts.
Breast augmentation enhances the feminine contour of a woman’s body with the help of breast implants. Originally, breast augmentation was a painful and barbaric procedure, involving simply an injection of silicone into the breast area to increase their size (this occurred in the 1930-1940s). Since the silicone was not inside a secure casing, women suffered serious complications, some even fatal.
Today’s breast implants have been designed to be a pliable sac filled with liquid or gel. They confrom to the natural shape of the breast, and maintain their shape while in place, resulting in a desirable overall body contour. They are also constructed so that they resemble how an actual breast would feel. Therefore, both the casing, or shell, as well as the filling contribute to the results.
Women interested in undergoing breast augmentation should be aware of the options available to them when choosing breast implants. Silicone or saline filled, textured or smooth – there’s a lot out there to consider before making a choice so it’s up to the patient to decide what is most suitable.

Allergy Testing Types – What are the different Allergy Testing Procedures?
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Allergy testing can help you find out what substances you have an adverse reaction to. Some allergies are very serious, so it is important to undergo an allergy test to figure out just what you’re allergic to. Completing an allergy test can help you find the best ways to treat your symptoms and get on with your life.
The types of allergy testing available varies based on the allergens you are being tested for among other factors.
Prick skin testing is an allergy test where possible allergens are placed on the skin. The skin is then pricked and a period of time passes to see if any of the allergens have caused redness, swelling or irritation. If one of them does, you are most likely allergic to that substance.
Another allergy testing procedure is intradermal skin testing. This type of allergy testing involves the placement of an allergen underneath your skin with a needle. If irritation develops you are most likely allergic to the substance.
Allergy blood testing is another form of allergy testing that can detect your reaction to certain substances. Allergy blood testing is often used when skin testing is out of the question due to an outlying skin condition or for fear of a severe reaction.
Lastly, there is patch skin testing. This allergy test works by placing an allergen on your skin, usually the back, and then covering it with a bandage for many days. If you have a reaction to the allergen, you are most likely allergic and have what is called a contact allergy, or an allergy that is apparent by merely touching the substance in question.
Allergy testing procedures are very effective in determining and diagnosing allergies in all kinds of people. If you think you may be allergic to something, don’t sit around and suffer. You can do something about it. Allergy testing may be the right way to go for you.

Less Stress Leads To A Better Rest
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
In the modern world of today we are constantly being bombarded with high levels of stress and anxiety. These stresses can
be physical, mental or environmental. They place an enormous strain on our physical and mental health.
Most of us are aware that excessive stress can affect our ability to think straight, our digestive system, adrenal glands and
heart. Research has however shown that whenever a stressful situation arises, there is a knock on effect. Firstly stress
limits the blood supply going to the stomach, this hampers the digestive system and a temporary shut down of our immune
system may follow. If we are overwhelmed with stress for an extended period we are likely to experience fatigue and
exhaustion.
Although it may not be possible to avoid these stress factors in our lives there is help available. There are many natural
herbal supplements, known for they’re relaxing properties which assist in combating the harmful effects of anxiety and stress.
Several herbs are usually incorporated together to make a powerful formula.
We will take a look at some of the individual herbs, which go to make up some of these potent anti- anxiety supplements: -
• Jujube Seeds: – hypnotic and anti-anxiety effect used for hysteria, fatigue, sleeplessness, debility and restlessness.
• Magnolia Bark: – has anti anxiety, anti stress properties, lowers the cortisol, promotes relaxation and improves the
mood.
• Potassium: -sustains the fluid and electrolyte balance, discharges energy from carbohydrate, protein and fat,
assists in conveying nerve impulses.
• Magnesium: -is a trace mineral and its chief role is manufacturing and transporting energy, relaxing and contracting
the muscles, assisting some enzymes with their task in the body and mixing proteins.
• Valerian Root: – It supports a feeling of calmness, improves sleep, reduces anxiety levels and facilitates relaxation
of the central nervous system. Valerian root is non addictive and does not cause morning tiredness. It also is useful in
slowing the heart in those who have the condition known as tachycardia.
• Melatonin: -is one of the most dominant antioxidants in the brain. It restores metabolism, improves the quality of
sleep and slows down degenerative diseases of the brain such as Parkinson’s. Melatonin can control extreme cortical
production and is therefore effectual in reducing stress levels and regulating sleep cycles.
• Vitamin B complex contains Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5,
B6 and B12 are all essential vitamins for the nervous system

Ayurveda for Sleep Problems
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Yoga and Pranayama is an important measure to reduce work place negativity, tension, anxiety and so many other problems. Sleep problems are some of the most common problems parents face with their kids. Some children may have chronic sleep difficulties, and many children are actually going through their days sleep-deprived. Many people complain that they can’t fall asleep or stay asleep, or that they are sleepy during the day, but few consider these to be symptoms of a sleep disorder. Sleep deprivation is a symptom of a sleep disorder. Some sleep disorders, such as narcolepsy, are best treated pharmacologically, whereas others, such as chronic and primary insomnia, are more amenable to behavioral interventions. Many childhood sleep problems are related to poor sleep habits or to anxiety about going to bed and falling asleep. Persistent sleep problems may also be symptoms of emotional difficulties.
Sleep problems may be caused by or the result of disorders in various systems of the body. Sleep apnea, for example, is a respiratory disorder while narcolepsy is a neurological disorder. If a pe
rson has experienced sleeping difficulties for a month or more, this is called persistent or chronic insomnia. Some children will do all they can to prevent separation at bedtime. However, to help minimize common sleep problems, a parent should develop consistent bedtime and regular bedtime and sleep routines for children. Parents often find that feeding and rocking help an infant to get to sleep. However, other medical specialties also offer treatment for sleep disorders. Regular practice of pranayam and yoga cures insomnia and sleeplessness and gives better health. If every person follows this regime, this will eradicate diseases from world.
Ayurveda on Sleep Problems:
According to the Ayurveda, sleeplessness results in laziness, tiredness, inertia, dizziness, feeling of heaviness, body ache etc. Head ache, high temperature, cough are the results of continued untimely sleep. Ayurveda also says that over sleep can cause diabetes. People having depression, schizophrenia, and similar psychological disorders have been found to improve their condition if they get enough deep sleep.
