Whether you’ve suffered from depression symptoms periodically, or continuously for a significant amount of time, there may be a point where you need to ask yourself, “Isn’t there another way to control this disease?” Though you may have tried medical interventions and prescription drugs as depression treatments, you long for a more holistic health remedy that won’t tax your body (or your wallet) the way some medications can.
Fortunately, there are depression treatment options that are highly effective for many, have been used for years to control depression symptoms, and are 100% natural. They also come with an easy-to-swallow price tag that doesn’t require a health card or a co-pay.
Namely, these alternative depression treatments straight from Mother Nature’s cupboard are vitamin B12, vitamin B6, and vitamin D.
Vitamin B12 as a Depression Treatment
Found in eggs, dairy products, and meats, vitamin B12 helps the body to make red blood cells and assists in keeping the neural net healthy, among other benefits. Without B12, the brain may have difficulty getting the proper blood supply it needs; additionally, the mind may have trouble synthesizing thoughts and ideas, a condition thought to lead to depression symptoms.
By including B12 in the diet as a depression treatment, the patient is serving to boost those key areas affected depression symptoms. After all, when blood is delivering the proper quantities of oxygen and neurons are “firing” appropriately, the triggers of depression can more efficiently be kept at bay.
Vitamin B6 as Treatment for Depression Symptoms
Another B complex vitam
in, B6, like B12, assists with the carriage of oxygen by red blood cells. Without B6, immunity can be compromised; thus, many patients who are prone to depression symptoms need to keep their B6 levels high as a preventive form of depression treatment. It is well known that having to live with the symptoms of diseases caused by a weak immune system can easily lead to depression.
As a depression treatment, Vitamin B6 can be found in many places, including fortified cereals, chicken, bananas, “fatty fish” (such as salmon and tuna), and peanuts. Like other vitamin nutritional supplements, it can also be ingested in pill or capsule form if desired.
Vitamin D for Depression Treatment
One of the keys to internal health, vitamin D helps regulate intestinal health, blood flow, and bone strength. Thus, as a depression treatment option, it’s excellent for all-around support and nutrition.
Unfortunately, many people do not get enough vitamin D, as soda has replaced milk (which, thanks to fortification, contains large quantities of vitamin D) as a popular drink. Therefore, if you’re looking to incorporate vitamin D into your lifestyle as a depression treatment, you may want to consider getting it as a nutritional supplement.
Of course, if you’re game, you can seek out vitamin D in its purest sources such as salmon, tuna, lowfat or nonfat milk and dairy products, margarine, cereals, eggs, and cheese. Ironically, exposure to the sun can also provide you with the vitamin D needed; and as a depression treatment, this “sunlight therapy” has been shown to have an almost immediate positive effect on depression symptoms.
Alternative and Traditional Depression Treatments: A Marriage
If your current medically-driven depression treatment isn’t working for you, why not add a holistic natural treatment into your regimen as well? By doing so, you’ll be upping the chances of fewer episodes and more contented days free of debilitating depression symptoms.

It seems like we can’t walk through the toothpaste aisle at the local grocery store these days without seeing this toothpaste or that overnight treatment for tooth whitening. There are toothpastes, brush-on overnight paints and even those little dams. So, there we stand agonizing over which product to try this time as a means to reduce the effects of age, coffee, tea and smoking.
Which one is the best one on the market? Why didn’t I think to ask my dentist the last time I was in that chair? What are the risks? Hum, I wonder if my dentist would mind if I called him now? How many of you have looked at a few of those and walked away in frustration resolving to ask your dentist at your next visit? Well, here is the latest information regarding tooth whitening products from the American Dental Association.
In-Office Bleaching:
Providing your gums and teeth are healthy enough, a dentist can use a tooth whitening agent right in his chair. This procedure consists of covering or protecting your gums with a gel-like substance, then using a product that will bleach your teeth free of stains. This is, obviously, more expensive than one of the do-it-yourself varieties, but is more effective in the long run. It is important to note, however, that an in-office tooth whitening procedure may take more than one visit for optimal results.
At-Home Bleaching:
The products that may be used at home for tooth whitening include bleaching agents and toothpastes. A bleaching agent, usually a gel containing a mixture of peroxide and other chemicals, is placed in a “guard” or “dam” and worn for a period time, usually overnight for about a week to ten days. By contrast, a whitening toothpaste may be used every time you brush your teeth and will have some effect, but not as much as either the home bleaching products or those used by your dentist.
Whatever tooth whitening product you choose, make sure that it has been accepted by the American Dental Association. This way you are assured of the quality and safety of the product you will be placing in you mouth and near your fragile teeth and gums. The American Dental Association is the leading authority when it comes to dental procedures and products, so if it the one you are looking at does not bear their seal of acceptance, then the safety and quality of the product may be questionable.

Sinusitis and its Symptoms
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
A sinusitis infection may start off simple: runny nose, cough, and congestion. But when it is not taken care of in time, it can lead to much more severe symptoms.
Sinusitis is generally caused by a cold or an allergy. When a cold or allergy takes place, swelling of the sinus cavity lining occurs. When bacteria enter the sinus cavities, they attack the swollen lining which then causes greater inflammation. The cilia is a part of the sinuses which usually flushes out the bacteria and mucus. When a large amount of inflammation occurs, the cilia can no longer function as it should and so the bacteria and mucus end up becoming trapped in the cavities and as a result the sinusitis infection takes place.
Frequently, the symptoms of an acute sinusitis infection may include cough, congestion, facial pain and pressure, green nasal discharge, and postnasal drip. When the sinusitis infection lasts for twelve or more weeks it is known as chronic sinusitis and can have added symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell and fatigue may also be experienced. Other symptoms may also occur depending on which sinus cavity that the infection lies in. A sinus headache may also occur. A sinus headache happens then the inflammation from the sinusitis infection pushes on the nerves. Other symptoms such as upper tooth pain may occur because of the pressure also.
There are numerous medications and treatments meant to offer relief to the sinusitis infection sufferer. One of the most common treatments is oral medications such as antibiotics, decongestants, and anti-fungals. Oral medications work on infections and other problems by traveling through the blood stream to the infected area. In the sinus cavities there are very few blood vessels. Since the oral medications use the blood stream to flow to the area where they are ne
eded, only a small amount of the medication can be delivered to the sinusitis infection which may lead to little or no relief from the treatment. Also since these medications use the blood stream, it then is distributed through out the rest of the body also which can lead to many side effects such as stomach pain, drowsiness, amongst many others depending on which type of medication is being used.
There are also many treatments which are directly distributed into the sinus cavities. These treatments are generally meant to help moisten the cilia so that it can flush out the trapped mucus and bacteria. Nasal sprays are commonly used and can be prescribed or purchased over the counter. The nasal sprays may offer some relief to the lower part of the sinuses but often times may not help the infection since their particle sizes are too large to make it past the inflammation at the opening of the sinus cavities and up to the sinusitis infection. The same holds true for a treatment called irrigation which distributes saline up to the sinus cavities. Irrigation is also very messy and generally unsuccessful in offering relief.
A newer treatment that is used nasally is aerosolized medications. Aerosolized medications are used very much like nebulized asthma medications. These antibiotics, anti-fungals, and anti-inflammatories are broken down into a small particle size so that it can pass the inflammation and make its way up to the sinusitis infection. Generally a small amount of these medications are used which results in little to no side effects in the rest of the body.
There are many options on the market which are meant to offer relief for sinusitis infections. It is important to find the treatment that works best for you and to treat the infection before it worsens and surgery is then left as the only option.

The proper bronchitis treatment
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
If you are diagnosed by the doctor with bronchitis the best thing to do is to get the best treatment for bronchitis, in order to avoid any complications. There are many treatments available for bronchitis. The main concern when suffering from bronchitis is the problems you have breathing. This disease, bronchitis is a respiratory system condition, so coughing and shortness of breath are a big problem when having bronchitis.
In order to make your breathing a lot easier when you have bronchitis, here are some tricks for you to follow. First of all, when suffering from bronchitis, you must drink a lot of fluids. Try drinking at least nine galsses of water every day. This is very beneficial if you have bronchitis, because it helps to keep the mucus produced thin. Another thing to remember is to avoid any dairy products or sugar if you have bronchitis. They only weaken your immune system. Furthermore, the production of mucus will be increased by the use of these products, if you have bronchitis.
The second useful trick when having bronchitis is not to take any cough suppressants. It is the first impulse that somebody has when suffering from bronchitis. This is not good, because
when you cough, your body eliminates the mucus that is produced when you have bronchitis. If you take any drugs that are meant to suppress cough, the mucus may buildup. This can lead to serious complications of bronchitis, like pneumonia. Other drugs you should avoid in case of bronchitis are decongestants and antihistamines. Instead of helping you with your bronchitis, these drugs can make things worse. If you take them when you have
bronchitis, there is a big chance your airways will dry and the mucus will become thicker, which is very bad if you have bronchitis.
The third thing to do in case of bronchitis is to use humidifiers or vaporizers. In cases of bronchitis, it will be a relief for you to have your airways moist. This two do just that. A hot bath of shower is also another great way to relief some of the bronchitis symptoms. Because when you have bronchitis, your airways are the ones that must be taken care of, be sure to avoid any irritants. Dust, chemicals or paint may irritate you airways even more and make your bronchitis worse. If you use aerosols or insecticides, try to stop that as long as you have bronchitis. They will only make the bronchitis worse.

The
new generation world may be blessed with some of the best advantages life can
provide. But the advent of the modern lifestyle has also invited a host of
diseases arising out of stress and unhealthy lifestyle. And to cope with the
health conditions, patients generally rely on the most adaptable and cheapest
forms of treatment i.e. drug therapy. When you mention stress, the most
potential circumstance that arises is the influence it has on your health.
Stress has lately been found to be the source of most diseases. But the most
profound of all is the causing of sexual condition in men – erectile dysfunction (E.D).
Erectile dysfunction, commonly termed as impotence is the medical condition
affecting the sexual health in men. This is a condition when a man is unable to
achieve or maintain an erection consistently for a prolonged period of time.
This is caused mainly due to the hardening of the arteries in the penis which
prevents the flow of blood, thus failing an erection. And the situation
aggravates when the man suffering from sexual failure is constantly under fear
of rejection from his partner. But since the advent of the ED drug Viagra, the complexities in relationships arising out
of the sexual failure has eased out a lot. Also, Viagra online information has a
vital role to play in revolutionizing the effectiveness of the drug to millions
of ED patients all over the globe. Recent
Viagra
information reveals 80 percent success rate on its effectiveness amongst
its consumers.
Viagra, the pioneer in erectile dysfunction medication, was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) in 1998. This brand
drug of Pfizer Inc. has since then played
significant role in improving the love and sex lives of men worldwide. But the
effectiveness of Viagra can be consigned to its active ingredient Sildenafil citrate. It works by relaxing
the penile arteries and enhances blood flow to the erectile tissue; also
controlling the amount of blood leaving the tissue to make sure that blood is
retained in the tissues for as long as it is required for sexual act. Thereby,
a single dose of Viagra is said to perform for as long as four hours.
Studies have revealed that Viagra, the lead promoter of ED drugs has become as
synonymous to the disease itself. In many cases it has been found that, a
person seeking impotence information
automatically acknowledges Viagra information. And the credit for its
popularity can be attributed to the skillful marketing and trust its consumers
has place on it as a gratitude of rejuvenating their lives.

The role of the gall bladder
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
A special system was created for the digestion and the absorption of the gall bladder through the intestinal wall. Since it contains substances that allow fats to be emulsified because the bile is an essential factor for these.
The breakdown of fats stimulates the secretion of an enzyme. After being secreted by the liver the bile is stored in the gallbladder until needed. The gallbladder is stimulated when a fat is eaten and bile flows down the cystic duct, into the common bile duct and through the ampulla of Vater into the intestine.
The gallbladder also concentrates the bile within it by removing water through its wall. If the gallbladder is removed the bile still flows into the intestine from the liver when fat digestion may be less efficient because the bile is not concentrated. The must common disorder of the biliary tract is gallstones.
It is thought that the gall bladder produce an excessive amount of water from the bile so that some of its constituents can no longer remain in solution. Gallstones are frequently associated with eating a diet that is high fat and refined carbohydrates and low in fiber. Gallstones taken for some other reason can be discovered by an x-ray practice in order to leave them alone if they are causing no symptoms, since the risk of developing problems is slightly less than the risk from a major operation.
If a patient with asymtomatic gallstones is having an abdominal operation for another reason, the gallbladder may be removed at the same time. The problems that gallstones can give rise are the following: cholecystitis, choledocholithiasis and cholangitis, pancreatitis and gallstones ileus. Patients with symptoms from gallstones will suffer from chronic cholecystitis. A stones becoming stuck in the junction of the gallbladder and the bile duct may cause severe attacks.
The muscle situated in the wall of both gallbladder and duct contracts in a effort to move the stone and this produces intense pain felt under the ribs on the right-hand side of the abdomen. The pain may be felt under the V on the ribs or may extend right across the abdomen and spread around to the back below the right shoulder blade. The patient vomit and is usually restless. The stone falls into the gallbladder or by some muscle contractions is past down the bile duct and into the intestine. This process may last several hours.
The main symptom is a constant dull ache in the upper abdomen, discomfort and flatulence after eating a fatty meal. The most frequently affected are women between the ages of 20 and 40. It is caused by a stone becoming jammed either in the junction of the gallbladder and duct or in the duct itself. This appear at many patients who suffered from binary colic indigestion or flatulence. The inflammation of acute cholecystitis is caused at first by the chemicals in the bile. It was proven that a bacterial infection supervenes in 50 percent or more of cases.
The pain is severe and constant and comes suddenly. It appears in the right and central parts of the upper abdomen and under the right shoulder blade. In this case the patient usually vomits and it is ill and feverish. If the bile duct becomes swollen, slight jaundice appear as bile from the liver which is prevented from passing into the intestine and enters the blood stream instead. When dealing with gallstones the gastrointestinal surgeons are experts choosing the correct treatment for an individual patient.
The most commonly performed operation is called laparoscopic cholecystectomy-designed to remove to the gallbladder as easily and safely as possible and with the smallest possible incisions. An usual cholecystectomy involves major abdominal surgery. In cases when the patients are not fit for surgery it may be possible to dissolve the stones by giving them chenodeoxycholic acid or ursodeoxycholic acid. This kind of preparation are taken by mouth and are excreted in the bile. If the gallstones are very small and contain very little calcium which make them invisible on a plain x-ray of the abdomen they will not work without the gallbladder.
The treatment is not good for women of childbearing age or for those with any form with liver disease. Although 80 percent of stones may be dissolved after six month’s or a year’s treatment they frequently re-appear after the medication have stopped. When external shock waves are used to bombard and shatter the stones, the process is called lithotripsy. An approach involves injecting into the gall bladder a strong solution that dissolves the cholesterol from which the stones are made. Gallstone disease needs an extensive experience to manage properly.
In many cases diseases due to the appearance of the gall bladder the cure is possible.

The Two Faces of Muscle Relaxants
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
One of the weirdest, most
surprising, and very excruciating incidents that a person can experience during
sleep is muscle cramps or spasm usually in the leg area. It is so sudden that
one can be alarmed from its unexpected occurrence and rendered helpless while
painfully waiting for the cramp or spasm to subside. Right after that fleeting
experience, the remaining sensation of the leg cramp remains for several days
before it completely goes away. Usually, muscle cramps are observed from
athletes who are engrossed in their games but suddenly stumbles and falls to
the ground holding the body part that was afflicted by the spasm. It is to be
expected from them because over-exertion during activities really cause muscle
cramps or spasms to occur. The ones that are experienced at night are often
called “night cramps” and though the causes of it still remain quiet vague, it
is said that the usual contracted state of the leg muscles when lying down may
predispose that part of the body to develop further into spasms. Other
suggested reasons for night cramps to occur include side-effects of
medications, dehydration, and vascular diseases in the leg areas.
Though some night cramps are
fleeting and hardly happen again to some people, a few number of individuals
have reported experiencing frequent night cramps which become very troubling
not only due to its pain but more of the disturbance it causes during sleep.
According to some medical professionals, some people are really prone to having
cramps and not even just at night. Usually, leg stretching or entire body
stretching may be the solution for these situation but in some more serious
cases muscle-relaxers are already used as treatment.
Muscle-relaxers are prescription
medications that are used to alleviate the pain and discomfort caused by muscle
cramps or spasms. Some individuals who have serious muscle problems that have
resulted from over-use or over-exertion really need to take muscle-relaxers to
at least decrease the difficulty they experience because of their h
ealth
condition. However, like most medications, muscle-relaxers also require certain
precautionary measures before their intake. Moreover, certain side effects are
also reported to result from muscle-relaxer use. Because of the slight danger
or threat posed by these factors, new medications were developed such as herbal
muscle-relaxers. Unlike their more famous counterparts, these muscle-relaxers
are said to be purely made from natural components, thus, side effects are
highly unlikely. It is said to have the same effectiveness as the ones that are
made from chemical substances, however, with the less risk of causing harm. On
the other hand, some medical professionals claim that these herbal
muscle-relaxers are merely like supplements that, though has a certain level of
scientific support, cannot totally profess therapeutic claims. Herbal
muscle-relaxants are also said to lack in prior testing which is usually
required from most drugs to prove their effectiveness based on scientific
evidences. Finally, these herbal counterparts are said to have an indefinite
dosage measurement to treat muscle injuries. Like vitamins, a person cannot
overdose from these medications, however, their effectiveness are also
compromised by their lack of a defined substance dosage.
The
final decision actually lies in the hands of the consumers, whether they will
choose to make use of the usual muscle-relaxants with its precautionary
measures needed and risks of side effects, however, with a guaranteed
effectiveness; or they will go with a herbal muscle-relaxant that makes use of
all natural components, assures of higher safety, however, with compromised
effectiveness. Upon deciding, it is better to seek advice from those who know
better, this means those that are professionals in the field of medicine and
healthcare. Various concerns should be relayed to them relative to the use of
medications so that they can also have a better analysis of the situation. The
only one act which should not be done at all is to self-medicate when muscle cramps
or spasms are experienced. When this is done, further complications and harm
may possibly arise instead of desired treatment and cure.

How Asthma Sufferers Can Live Drug-Free and Breathe Freely?
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Who else wants to know that asthma is an allergic inflammation of the lungs and it’s on the rise among Americans, particularly among African American children.
It’s estimated that between 20 and 40 million people suffer from the disease and its attacks can be debilitating and frightening, especially if the medication used to treat it produces unwanted side effects like anxiety and chest pain.
Fortunately, there are non-drug remedies to reduce the frequency of asthma attacks in Blacks and decrease severity when they do occur. Alternative remedies include acupuncture, breathing exercises, diet, environmental changes and nutritional supplements. Let’s briefly look at each.
1) Pins & Needles
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese practice that relieves pain and other conditions by the placement of small needles that stimulate certain responsive parts of the body’s nervous system.
It has been proven effective in maintaining proper lung function, a key necessity for asthma sufferers. Contrary to its painful image of pin and needle-pricked skin, most acupuncture patients find the experience totally painless and experience immediate relief from symptoms.
But effective acupuncture is both a science and an art and should be administered by licensed professionals only .
2) Take A Deep Breath
Most of us are guilty of shallow breathing – an especially serious problem for asthmatics who can’t exhale with force.
Air gets trapped in the lungs causing the gasping seizures so typical of the disease. Breathing exercises that fully engage the diaphragm to draw air in and out are an effective way to strengthen the lungs and control attacks.
Yoga adepts who emphasize the importance of good breathing as fundamental to good health recommend the following techniques. First, relax. Put yourself in a meditative pose and focus on peaceful imagery.
Second, breathe in deeply while visualizing you
r stomach (diaphragm) expanding and contracting, rather than your chest. Last, count your breaths. Inhale on three counts and exhale on six. Exhale through slightly parted lips.
3) Watch What You Eat – Your diet
Sugar, salt and processed foods are bad, bad, bad! They can trigger inflammation and allergic reactions that produce asthmatic episodes, so evaluate your diet and eliminate these no-no’s. Then use the strategy employed when introducing first foods to babies.
Eat only one food at a time – milk for example – to see if it triggers an allergic or asthmatic reaction. If it can be tolerated with good results, add other foods one by one to determine whether or not they’re a safe addition to your diet.
4) Supplement It
Vitamin therapy can be an effective deterrent to asthma seizures. Taken regularly, the benefits of Vitamins A, C and E and the B-complex vitamins are good sources of antioxidant protection that have proven beneficial for asthmatics.
Drug-therapy may be required for your asthmatic condition. But consider these alternative therapies as well.
The natural approach may help alleviate or eliminate your symptoms entirely while allowing you to take control in a gentle, proactive way.
You must create a plan for a future to have a drug-free asthma-free lifestyle. This includes a qualified medical practitioner who addresses your total health. Proper rest, proper breathing, proper exercise, proper nourishment, and a proper toxin-free environment. And remember to exhale completely!

Eating Disorders Warning Signs
Filed Under Uncategorized | Leave a Comment
Eating disorders are serious behavior problems. Eating disorders can cause heart and kidney problems and even death. Eating disorders are not a sign that a person has a problem with food, rather eating disorders are actually only the symptoms of underlying problems in that person’s life. Eating disorders involve serious disturbances in eating behavior, such as extreme and unhealthy reduction of food intake or severe overeating, as well as feelings of distress or extreme concern about body shape or weight. Researchers are investigating how and why initially voluntary behaviors, such as eating smaller or larger amounts of food than usual, at some point move beyond control in some people and develop into an eating disorder. Dieting to a body weight leaner than needed for health is highly promoted by current fashion trends, sales campaigns for special foods, and in some activities and professions. Eating disorders frequently co-occur with other psychiatric disorders such as depression, substance abuse, and anxiety disorders. These are also the three most common eating disorders. All three have severe consequences to a person’s immediate and long-term health and can cause death.
Eating disorders are characterized by an abnormal obsession with food and weight. Eating disorders are much more noticed in women than in men. Environmental factors have a large influence on developing eating disorders but more research is being performed on hormonal imbalances, brain lesions and their effects on eating disorders. Many types of eating disorder such as , anorexia nervosa , starvation diet ,binge eating disorder , bulimia nervosa , diabulimia and night eating syndrome. Girls and women are 10 times more likely than boys and men to suffer from anorexia or bulimia. However, eating disorders do seem to be getting more common in boys and men. Anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa are more commonly known as anorexia and bulimia. The two disorders can be difficult to distinguish from each other because they have similar characteristics. Anorexics consider themselves to be fat, no matter what their actual weight is. Often anorexics do not recognize they a
re underweight and may still “feel fat” at 80 lbs. Anorexics close to death will show you on their bodies where they feel they need to lose weight.
Most people with eating disorders will try to avoid conflicts at all costs, so they usually don’t express negative feelings and try to wear a happy face all the time to try and please people. Treatment can include medical supervision, nutritional counseling, and therapy. Treatment of anorexia calls for a specific program that involves three main phases: (1) restoring weight lost to severe dieting and purging; (2) treating psychological disturbances such as distortion of body image, low self-esteem, and interpersonal conflicts; and (3) achieving long-term remission and rehabilitation, or full recovery. These medications also may help prevent relapse. The treatment goals and strategies for binge-eating disorder are similar to those for bulimia, and studies are currently evaluating the effectiveness of various interventions. Many parents worry about how to get their kids a healthy diet, and prevent them from becoming obese or overweight without giving them anxiety about food that might lead to an eating disorder. Take an active role in creating a healthy lifestyle for your child. Involve your child in the preparation of healthy, nutritious meals on a regular basis.
Eating Disorders Treatment Tips
1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – emphasizes the relationship between thoughts and feelings by focusing on a person’s thought processes.
2. Interpersonal therapy – focuses on addressing difficult relationships with others
3. Rational Emotive Therapy – focuses on a person’s unhelpful beliefs
4. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy – focuses on a person’s past experiences.
5. Family therapy usually involves those who live with the person with the eating disorder, such as parents, siblings, and partner or spouse.
6. Group therapy provides a supportive network of people who have similar eating disorders.
7. Support groups are led by trained volunteers or health professionals.
